What We Do

Check out our What’s Happening Page to see our current events and “happenings.”

And the King will answer them, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of my brethren, you did it to me.                        Matthew 25:40

Fern Creek United Methodist Church is involved in outreach ministries to help people in need in our community. We do this through donations of food, clothing, time, talents, and money.

For more information on our Outreach Programs please contact the Church Office.

These are our current areas of focus:

  • Baptist Palliative Care Food Pantry: The Baptist Health Louisville hospital has a Palliative Care Unit with a family room and pantry where families sitting with their loved one may use to take a break to pick up a snack or have a microwaveable meal quickly, even in the middle of the night.  We bring non-perishable items (small packages of crackers, snacks, chips, cookies, meals to warm in the microwave, etc.) for the pantry; place them in the black box on the landing leading to the Fellowship Hall.

  • Fern Creek/Highview United Ministries (FCHUM): FCUMC is a member church and is involved with the ministry of the Fern Creek / Highview United Ministries! As noted on their website, this is accomplished by
    • Participating in volunteer opportunities,
    • Providing financial donations to FCHUM,
    • Opening up new venues of service through our congregation,
    • Providing help and occasional use of our facility for special activities and projects, etc.
  • Kentucky United Methodist Children’s Home:

The KUMCH serves Christ by providing for the physical, emotional, educational, and spiritual needs of children and families. As a Christian service agency for children and families, we believe that every person is an individual of worth entitled to God’s gift of wholeness of life. The Kentucky United Methodist Children’s Homes shall be a Christ-centered ministry of hope for the healing and wholeness of children and families.

    • 5th Sunday Offering:  We support directly through the 5th Sunday Offering; you can change a life every 5th Sunday of the month. Bring hope to hurting children by giving a gift. You can give by using a yellow KyUMH pew envelope, writing “The Kentucky United Methodist Homes” or “KyUMH” in the memo line of your check or donating on the KyUMH webpage. Fifth Sunday offerings ensure children from histories of abuse, neglect and trauma get the care they need to thrive.
  • Street Reach: Follow us on Facebook at our FCUMC Street Reach page. FCUMC Street Reach exists to serve and support the homeless in Metro Louisville, as well as work alongside and network with our sister outreach groups. Our team goes out AT LEAST once each week to serve our community.
  • The Forgotten Louisville
  • Open Table: Open Table is a community ministry providing a free meal to anyone in the community every Tuesday night. This is a joint effort with Beulah Presbyterian and Trinity World Outreach Center and takes place in the Beulah activities building. Follow the link for more detailed information.
  • Operation Christmas Child: This year’s Operation Christmas Child effort will consist of a year-round collection campaign for items that will fit inside the shoe box.  Our goal for 2019 is 300 shoeboxes for a girl or boy (ages 2 to 4, 5 to 9, or 10 14).  Be in prayer for what God would have you give.   Pick up a “YEAR ROUND GIFT IDEAS” sheet is in the Welcome Center.
  • Portland Promise Center
  • Recycle Aluminum Cans for Scholarships: We bring aluminum cans to be recycled by the Fern Creek Women’s Club each month. The money they receive from the recycled cans is used for scholarships for students graduating from Fern Creek High School.  Please place your bags of aluminum cans in the bins on the left side of the garage.

  • WaterStep Shoes for Water: By donating your new and gently used shoes to WaterStep, you’ll help fund safe drinking water projects all over the world – projects that help to save hundreds of lives each year.  In addition to funding water projects, donated shoes keep hundreds of tons of water out of our landfills.  They accept gently used shoes that are fee of mold/mildew. Athletic shoes are preferred, but they will accept all styles of shoes; please tie or rubber band each pair.  Shoes are sold to an exporter and funds received help bring clean water to those in need. The collection barrel is in the lower level at the end of the hall outside room 111.

  • Wesley Manor: Wesley Manor Retirement Community opened its doors in January 1963. Originally founded as a Methodist retirement home, Wesley Manor now serves people from many denominations and faith backgrounds. Wesley Manor is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt not-for-profit corporation, affiliated with the Kentucky Conference/United Methodist Church.  (Source: https://wesman.org/)
