Melissa was born and raised in Fern Creek and at FCUMC. She says she is very grateful to have been “born” into the church and always have that foundation of Christ and the Church to guide her through her life. Her childhood and youth memories are all centered around FCUMC and “always being at church if the doors were open.” She is also grateful to be raising her family at her “home” church. She credits her parents for being a loving, God-fearing couple and were the perfect example of how to keep God number one in all things you do. They showed how He should be number one in the personal, private, and professional aspects of your life especially your marriage and in child-rearing. Due to their example and being raised in church she always seeks guidance from the Lord in all aspects and decisions for her life.
Melissa is married to Scott and they have one son, Judson who graduated from Fern Creek High School and now attends Midway University. Melissa retired from JCTC in January 2019 but is continuing to teach as an adjunct professor. In addition to working for the church as Webmaster, she also went immediately back to work full-time at Fern Creek High School, her Alma mater. She has two Associate degrees from JCTC, a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Bellarmine University and a Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from UofL.
She has a puggle, a lab/weimaraner, and a turtle. She loves animals of all types if you couldn’t guess. She definitely has a very crazy household!
She and her husband enjoy watching and assisting with Judson’s interests; Judson is on his college bowling team and loves photography and movies. He also plays the banjo. They enjoy listening to him play and watching him do the things he loves. Melissa is a volunteer at Fern Creek HS with their sports programs–she is the head volleyball coach, is currently one of the statisticians/scorekeepers for both the boys and girls basketball teams, and has volunteered with other teams over the years. She and her family also support UofL, UK, and Notre Dame and of course all things Fern Creek. Needless to say, she is very busy and always on the go!
For Melissa, FCUMC truly is home. She would tell others to come join our loving, praying, and amazing church family. Once here, you will definitely know you too, are home.
