Prison Ministry Update

As of now, FCUMC is on the schedule to provide worship services on two different occasions in 2021 at the Women’s Prison (KCIW).At this time, volunteers are still NOT allowed into the facility but the Chaplain would like to get things in order in case the opportunity arises to begin services.  If you are interested and would like to be a part of a service and go into KCIW with us, you will need to contact Rose Farquhar so that we may get our list of volunteers together and background checks will be completed by the Chaplain.  We are only allowed a maximum of 10 individuals each time. All volunteers must be certified within 2 weeks of attending the service.  Please take your request seriously and commit to the date you request.  The steps are as follows:

  • 1.  Call, email, or text Rose the following information: Date requested, Name as it appears on your driver’s license, social security number, date of birth, and driver’s license number.  She will send an email to the Chaplain and he will run the background checks.
  • 2.  Once the list is complete there will be two forms to sign.  One is a Code of Ethics and the Prison Rape Elimination Act Form. These forms will be signed before we can enter the facility.
  • 3.  Once our list of volunteers is completed Rose will notify each of rules, dress code, etc.

The dates we are scheduled for (pending COVID restrictions):

  • Sunday Evening – August 22nd
  • Saturday Evening – December 25th (Christmas)

On the night of the events, we will leave the church at 6:30pm, carpool or meet at KCIW at 7pm and enter the facility going through the check in and scanners. If you have any questions, please contact Rose and she would be glad to share the joy of prison ministry with you.

A few reminders about preparing for coming to worship and arriving to worship:

Please follow the guidelines from the CDC:

  • Wear a mask
    • A mask will be provided for you if you don’t have one
  • take your temperature at home before coming if possible
  • If you feel sick, please stay at home and worship with us online.

All precautions are being taken to keep everyone safe while at the church. God bless and look forward to worshipping with you!

STREET REACH DONATIONS:

Please drop off ANY Street Reach donations outside the double doors by the entrance driveway (across from the church kitchen in Fellowship Hall) AND, it’s very important you call the church office & let us know you are doing so!  Otherwise your donations may “walk away”!  Thank you.

Remember the weather is still unpredictable and the nights are still on the colder side, please remember our Homeless Community use sternos to keep themselves warm, and they are extremely effective; especially considering the way some folks winterize their tents and shelters. Sternos are one of our top priorities from now through the end of April (6-hour sternos are the best). If you are considering a donation these would be greatly appreciated.

When you are mailing in your giving to the church, please use ONLY the P. O. Box 91316 LOUISVILLE,KY 40291,  DO NOT PUT THE CHURCH PHYSICAL ADDRESS ON YOUR ENVELOPE! If you do, it will come back to you!

Reminder: you may continue to give online. In lieu of not having the opportunity to give through your tithes and offerings during the offering time at Church, you may mail them to the church office, use you mobile app, or give on-line.  Thank you for your faithfulness!

  • mail it to Fern Creek UMC, P. O. Box 91316, Louisville,  KY 40291
  • utilize the pushpay app; text “FCUMC” to 77977
  • online:www.ferncreekumc.org

STREET REACH

Follow Street Reach on Twitter!! @street-reach

Almost every day of the week there are Street Reach team members in the streets of Louisville supplying much needed items such as water, clothing, food and tents to our Homeless Community.

You can help by supplying water, batteries (all sizes), sternos, tents, gloves, $5 McDonald gift cards, socks, blankets, sleeping bags, hoodies, jeans. Drop items off in Darryl’s office or join the team in this vital outreach mission on Thursdays at 6 pm when the entire team heads out on the FCUMC bus.
